The Law of Attraction In ACTION! Action step: Practice

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

You may know about the Law of Attraction but do you know what it means to be putting it into action? Here are a few tips that will speed up the attraction of your desires.

How often have you heard yourself say that you wanted to do something, but your actions led you in another direction? So often we dream about things that we would like to do or be, but we never actually start doing or being that thing. While it is great to have an intention about what we want, the secret to attracting these things into your life is to take action. Action lets the universe know that you are ready to receive. If you want to be less stressed, more patient, easier to get along with, or healthier, then practice being that way. You become what you practice.

The old adage is true: “Practice makes perfect.” Yet we seem to keep practicing what we don’t want in our lives. We say that we want to become less stressed, but we keep doing things that contribute to our stress level. We say that we want to lead a more fulfilling life, but we continue to practice being unfulfilled by doing things that leave us empty and drained. We say that we want to be healthier but practice being unhealthy by continuing to eat poorly and exercising little.

Becoming what you want most takes consciously putting our attention on the things we want to see more of and that takes practice. By practicing consistently, the habits we wish to form in our lives become second nature. Ask any professional athlete how they made it to the pros and they will tell you that intensive practice was a huge part of the equation. They had to practice being what they are now.

Practice is not only important when it comes to behaviors and habits such as being healthy, less stressed, or patient, but it is just as important when it comes to our life goals for career, family, relationships, and finances. If your goal is to land a certain position in the company that you work for, practice for it. Start by seeing the company from the point of view of someone already in that position. Practice looking the part and acting the part. In doing so, you not only prepare yourself for the position, but you also enable others to envision you there. Once other people, particularly decision-makers, can envision you in the position, you are more than halfway to achieving your goal.

The same principle holds true in relationships. Being in a strong, loving, and mutually beneficial relationship takes practice. By practicing the habits you want to manifest in a relationship, you build the one that you want. If you want to receive love, then practice giving love. If you want to have more fun, then practice being a fun person. If you don’t want to bicker, then practice not needing to be right all the time. If you want romance, then practice being romantic. If you want to attract people into your life with these qualities, then practice these qualities in your own life. The people you attract to your life are a reflection of you and the habits you practice most.

The person that you are right now is a reflection of what you practice most. You are constantly attracting these things into your life. When you look in the mirror, what does your reflection say about the habits you practice? Do you reflect kindness? Hard work? Anger? Prosperity? Love? Patience? Acknowledge the good habits you have established and want to continue to practice. Take the time to acknowledge that you made the decision to create a fabulous life and you are taking deliberate action to attract that life to you. You truly are amazing!

5 Steps to Success – to Explode Your Personal and Professional/Business Growth

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

Have you invested hundreds or thousands of dollars on self-improvement but have not really been able to get actual RETURNS from them? Or, have you had great ideas for growth, but have not been able to get actual RETURNS from them? Would you like to EXPLODE your personal and professional / business growth by turning your learning and ideas into revenue generating ACTION? Then read on …

Have you faced these situations in your life?

1) You attended training / education programs (seminars, workshops, boot-camps, tele-seminars, etc.) or you bought info-products – with the intention of implementing your learnings and so be able to grow and succeed…

2) Or, you had great ideas or intentions that you were absolutely sure would help your success and growth if they were implemented …

But … for some reason or the other you have not been able to successfully implement these learnings or ideas. The result? You did not get high returns on all the dollars spent on learning. Also, opportunities to improve your success and personal or professional / business growth were LOST!

Given below are 5 steps to success – from intention to implementation – they will help you EXPLODE your success and growth:

1. Understand Why We Don’t Implement Our Intentions

Why are we not able to put into action our intentions? Why do we so easily let our opportunities of growth pass us by?

One, we could really be very busy. Though we want to, we may not be able to succeed in finding the time to do what we wanted to do.

Two, procrastination. The feeling that we can do it later. The only problem is that the “later” somehow never seems to arrive.

Three, priority. We seem to be pressed with so many “urgent” things that clamor for our attention. And slowly, slowly, slowly (and sometimes may not be so very slowly) other urgent tasks push these intentions further and further into the background.

Four, fear, feeling of incapability, … and, there could be so many other reasons…

These ARE in fact real challenges we face. But remember, in spite of all these, we CAN succeed!!!

2. Understand the Foundation of Success

How can you get started on the path to turning intention to action? Think about this for a moment …

In 1953, there was a study done of Yale graduates. A survey was carried out, and it was found that only 3% of those surveyed had clear written down goals for life. Twenty years later, the same people were surveyed. This study threw out an extremely important analysis. The study found that …

Twenty years after the initial survey about goals, the 3% who had clear written down goals for life had greater assets than all the remaining 97% put together.

Wow!!!

That Yale study’s result is mind blowing.

So, what is our take-away from this study?

It sometimes sounds too simple to be true. But the fact remains, that to succeed, it is EXTREMELY important to WRITE down your intentions and goals clearly.

3. Understand the Mechanics of a Simple Success Story

Why did the 3% succeed and not the 97%? They succeeded because they had something they could track against, could compare against, till the goals or intentions were completed successfully.

Stephen Covey gives the example of an aircraft in flight, in his bestselling book “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.

Let’s say a flight is about to take off from JFK Airport, New York to O’Hare Airport, Chicago. Before it takes off, a flight plan is prepared for the flight. The flight plan specifies for every minute of the flight from take off to landing what the direction, speed and altitude (and other such parameters) of the plane would be. For example, one could know at the sixteenth minute of the flight, in what the direction the plane would be facing, at what speed it would be traveling and at what altitude it would be.

However, there is an extremely interesting fact we need to note. It was found that when actual measurements were done, for more than 90% of the time, a typical flight was actually NOT at the direction, speed or altitude it was supposed to be at. Due to unexpected factors such as wind speeds, air pockets, and so on, the plane was not where it actually should have been most of the time of the flight.

Surprised??? I was too. But in spite of this, although for most part of the flight it was “technically” not actually traveling as per the flight plan, the plane DOES land at the destination.

The result? SUCCESS in achieving the intention of reaching the target destination!

4. Understand Why This Success Happened

How does this success happen? This is because:

1) There was a flight plan (similar to the written goals of the 3%)

2) Based on the actual planned target destination, the plane made small corrections on a continuous basis, either through the plane’s auto-pilot facility or through manual actions taken by the pilot.

So the plane is back on track, and ultimately reaches its intended destination.

5. Implement the 2-Pronged Approach to Success

To succeed, implement the two simple, but extremely powerful steps we saw above, and success will DEFINITELY be yours! Remember, to achieve lasting success, you need to repeatedly do these two simple, powerful steps on an ongoing basis in every area you want to achieve success.

First, WRITE DOWN your intentions.

Take some time to WRITE down what actions you want to take. Let me repeat this, because this is so simple, yet so very critical in achieving success. Please take a few minutes to write down the actions you want to take or the goals you want to achieve.

With written down goals, although you may go off track, you have something to track against, so that you can make sure that you reach your intended destination, your intended action. Without written down goals, achieving success has a much, much lower, and almost zero likelihood.

Second, TRACK your progress till completion.

After you have written down goals, you need to track to make sure that you implement your goals. Please note that there are two types of goals/actions that one normally has – one, a change of behavior. An example would be “not to react negatively when someone is negative with me”, or two, a specific goal to be achieved by a particular target date. An example would be “send out a report in the next 3 weeks on how the team productivity can be improved”. Tracking includes making corrections to your goals and planned actions as you go along so that you are able to handle problems (such as air pockets in the example of the flight) on the way.

In summary, to guarantee your success, you need to implement two simple but effective steps - of first writing down your intentions and planned actions, and then, second, till they are completed, of tracking them and making corrections as required.

Excellent Leaders Are Excellent Cheerleaders

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Great Leaders Use Relationship Secret.

Question:  What is a secret shared by fantastic leaders and also great spouses and life partners?

Answer:  Cheerleading!

That is, people with excellent leadership skills cheerlead after

  • positive events
  • victories
  • a job well done

They also buoy up employees who experience a setback, bad news, or mistake.

KEY LEADERSHIP SKILL RESEARCH

Recent research showed that a person who responds enthusiastically – like a cheerleader – to his or her partner’s good news produces a stronger and healthier relationship than a person who responds compassionately to bad news.  This was found in research by Shelly Gable, Ph.D., UCLA psychology professor, and reported in Journal of Personality & Social Psychology (Vol. 91, No. 5).

This relationship research sheds light on a key leadership skill:  Leaders who ‘bond’ and form strong, productive relationships with employees and colleagues excel at cheerleading.

Gable and fellow researchers videotaped 79 couples talking about positive and negative events.  Then, trained raters coded their partners’ responses for

  • Usefulness:  constructive or destructive
  • Enthusiasm:  energetic or passive

Example:  A person proudly tells their partner that she or he just landed a promotion.  Then, there are four possible responses to accomplishment:

1.  Best response:  Energetic – Constructive = “You really deserve it!  You’ve been working hard for that promotion, and you earned it.”

2.  Wishy-washy response:  Passive – Constructive = only saying, “That’s nice.”

3.  Lousy response:  Energetic – Destructive = “Are you sure you can handle all that responsibility?”

4.  Ultra-lousy response:  Passive – Destructive = changing the subject

The research participants also filled-out a relationship satisfaction questionnaire eight weeks later, focusing on their partners’ response style to positive and negative events.

FINDINGS REVEAL USEFUL LEADERSHIP SKILLS

Super-useful finding:  People with partners who typically give Energetic – Constructive responses to positive events reported the highest level of relationship satisfaction.

Another useful finding:  A partner’s Energetic – Constructive response to positive events does more good for their relationship satisfaction than a partner’s sympathetic response to bad news.

2 TIPS FOR LEADERS TO BECOME CHEERLEADERS

So, how can managers, executives and other leaders use these intriguing research findings?

1st Tip – for positive events = When your employees or work colleagues do something wonderful, make sure you immediately give an Energetic – Constructive response.  Translation:  Act like a delighted and enthusiastic cheerleader.

2nd Tip – for negative events = When your co-workers or employees hit roadblocks or make mistakes at work, a fabulous leader immediately

  • acts understanding
  • resists the temptation to push their face in the mud
  • makes sure the employees do not wallow in their problems

For example, if an employee makes a mistake, you can say, “I realize that bothers you.  I know you usually do a great job.  How can you avoid making that mistake again in the future?”   Transform the negative event into a mood-lifting comment and encouragement.

LEADERS BENEFIT FROM ‘WHAT-GOES-AROUND-COMES-AROUND’

As leaders, you can apply this relationship research in your day-to-day leadership skills.  The results will be a stronger emotional bond with your employees.  Since ‘what-goes-around-comes-around,’ the stronger the bond, the more likely your employees will

  • enthusiastically support your leadership vision
  • see to it that your goals get accomplished
  • achieve high productivity – to earn your delightful cheerleading response again and again

God Bless Anna Nicole

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

99% of us don’t live like she did. But we can take a lesson from her life.

My heart sank when I heard the news about Anna Nicole’s passing on the radio as I was driving to work. No I didn’t agree with her lifestyle. I wasn’t a fan. Only watched her reality series once. I found it too painful to watch. Anyone could see she was a person in trouble. Her death saddened me because no-one’s life should be over at 39. What a tragic beginning to her little baby girls life. No matter what her mothers lifestyle was it is a tragedy she will never know her mother.

Anna Nicole did a remarkable job of branding herself; she was famous for being famous. I don’t believe it will be an enduring fame such as Elvis’s. Unlike Elvis she will be forgotten. 99% of us don’t live like she did. But we can take a lesson from her life. I believe a high percentage of us take so much about life for granted. The problem with that is life can be so much more when you are mindful of it’s beauty and gifts.

How often do you think about purpose, passion and play in your life? How often do you mindfully consider the nutrition content of your food? How often do you take time to slow down, relax and take stock of your life direction? How much daily exercise do you get?How often do you take a walk in the park or in the woods? How often do you get in touch with the beauty of nature? What values do you consider important in your life?Do you just “go thru the motions” of life? To busy to “think”? How often do you tell yourself you are too busy? Does life consist of work, home, sleep…paycheck on friday? Is your work meaningful to you?I have a friend who is a professional Life Coach specializing in relationship coaching. She speaks about knowing your “requirements” for a potential spouse. Those qualities in another person you must have for a successful relationship. I believe we also need to formulate “requirements” for life in general. Those things we value which we feel enhance and give meaning to our lives. Some potential requirements could be: gratefulness, forgiveness, playtime, wellness, meditation time, exercise time, meaningful work, volunteer work, etc. I think far too many times we don’t stick with our requirements in life. What are your “requirements” for a joyful life?I believe…well no….

I am SURE… we are intended to have a life of purpose, passion, wellness and joy! You have an opportunity to live every day of your life to the fullest extent. If you’re spending more time being stressed than joyful, choose to take time to examine why. If you are not connected with your purpose in life, choose to take time to discover it! Set goals which set you on fire with a passion for life! Surround yourself with people who are supportive and positive.

Be mindful of what you put into your body. If it isn’t going to honor your wellness don’t eat, drink or smoke it. Your body is precious. You are precious. The human body can take a lot of punishment but there is a time when Mother Nature is unforgiving. Change the things in your life which don’t promote wellness and joy. Your life can be everything you desire and more. You don’t have to fall thru the cracks. Anna Nicole, I believe, for whatever reason, fell thru the cracks. God bless Anna Nicole. May she rest in the peace she didn’t have on earth.

Getting Grounded to Achieve Your Goals

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Grounding involves identifying where you are at and where you are going.  By engaging in daily grounding activities, you can “stay on track” to reach your goals instead of just aimlessly going through the day.

Daily Grounding Activities
Morning Grounding

It is always better to start the day with a sense of hope, energy and direction.  I am a morning person, so of course I would say that.  Nevertheless, just like breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gets your body jump-started, morning grounding is one of the most important activities of the day, because it sets the tone and direction.

My long-term goal:  5 years from now I want to be:

My short term goal: To achieve my long-range goal, today I need to (list 2 things):

Once you have regrounded and reviewed where you are going, you can get in touch with yourself so the journey is as rewarding as the goal.  As you identify ways you sabotage yourself and actively increase the positives in your life, things will start to fall into place.  For example, once you are “happy” or “content” mentally you will probably feel more focused and sharp, physically you will find you have more energy and spiritually you will be more hopeful, positive and content.  In the “Things I need to do today” section, remember to keep your goals reasonable.  For example, in the emotional section, you could try to view everything through a positive light today, listen to your favorite music on the way to work, workout.

Emotionally

At the end of the day, review this list. How successful were you at maintaining the positive things and improving in the areas you were not so content?

Place a check by all of the things you wanted to do that you actually did.  Are there any you could still do?  If so, do them.

Discover Leadership From Within Using Bob Marley’s Lyrics

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Bob Marley has inspired generations with his musical messages of peace, love, and equality for all. Now see how the lyrics taken from four of his most famous songs help you lay the foundation to discover and awaken the leader within you.

I’ve been listening to Bob Marley’s music for over 15 years now, and it always inspires me. From watching the documentaries on his life and reading books about Bob I have realized that while he felt he was on a mission to spread peace and love, and educate the people of Jamaica and the rest of the world on events which affected all of us; he also understood the principles of self-leadership. Principles such as – taking responsibility for your actions, making choices in difficult times and standing by them, and focusing your thoughts on positive results and outcomes we want to achieve.

I’ve felt that the four excerpts below help us build the foundation for self-leadership. Because you must first lead yourself before you can lead anyone else. “Every man got a right to decide his own destiny,And in this judgment there is no partiality” – ZimbabweWe must first understand that we are responsible for the path we choose in life. It is ultimately our decision on the life we lead. Once we start stepping up and taking ownership of our choices and judgments we become empowered and others are more likely to follow our direction.

“Life is one big road with lots of signsSo when you riding through the rutsDon’t you complicate your mindFlee from hate, mischief and jealousyDon’t bury your thoughtsPut your vision to realityYeah!” – Wake Up And LiveAs leaders we must trust our inner guide on life’s journey when making the many choices that affect us our family, friends, and people at work. Yes, there will be times of difficulty and when challenges present themselves on many fronts, but by keeping things simple, resisting the urge to be negative, keeping our vision firmly in front of us success will present itself.

“Emancipate yourselves from mental slaveryNone but ourselves can free our minds” – Redemption SongWhat are the negative thoughts and memories that keep us shackled in mediocrity? Failure is past instances when we have had to lead or make major decisions? Perhaps we’ve done things when weren’t operating at our highest self. Those mental scars are lessons to be learnt from, and not to be chained too. Just remember it is us, and only us, that have placed our reality in captivity. The key to freedom is understanding that we are the liberators as well as the captors, and it requires just a change of thought or perspective in an instant that allows us to switch roles. “Open your eyesAnd look withinAre you satisfiedWith the life you’re living?” – ExodusWe must constantly ask ourselves the above question. As a leader we must continually move forward and not remain complacent. Tony Robbins teaches in his Unleash The Power Within Seminar that the two spiritual needs are “growth” and “contribution”. By keeping our eyes open and asking if we are satisfied with the life we’re living, the answer can only be yes when we are constantly meeting these two spiritual needs.

There’s a famous Afghan proverb that says: “If you think you are leading and no one is following you, then you are only taking a walk”. Agreed. But, we are walking forward, and that brings us closer to what we want to achieve. Then others are free to join our lead.

“Hold Onto Your Peace – Victory Is In Your Walk”

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Don’t let the cares of this world draw you away from your destiny. Staying focused and standing firm on what you have your mind set on – will deliver success in your life.

As ladies we can surely say at one time or another we have been tested, tried and pushed into situations we weren’t proud of.  In spite of what the situations have been – we have to learn to hold onto our peace.  Going pass peace will cause frustration and a lot of time results in a moment of resentment. Having our buttons pushed is not a pleasant thing, however continually speaking God’s Word to any mountain in our life, will allow maturity in that area of our life. The Word is the beginning of everything!  Planting the Word in our mouth and our heart results in transformation.

When we learn to hold onto our peace, it is a sure sign of maturity and growth.  Everyday is not going to be the same. The enemy will surely try his game.  Even if it results in an unpleasant situation, we have to remind ourselves who we are in Christ. We can’t let condemnation take root in our life.

Holding onto our peace will allow us to go to another level. It will cause advancements and promotions to come our way for the mere fact that we surrendered to the Word of God.  The peace God gave us is for us.  It is not intended for issues to rob us instantly of our peace.  Losing our keys, hung-up in traffic, and the children acting like they have lost their mind is just a few situations that sometimes come upon us.  God will allow us to continue to go around the same mulberry bush until we totally surrender and show we are ready for the next level.

Peace is so powerful!  It will prevent you from making a wrong decision.  Whenever you are somewhere you don’t belong – peace will allow you to be uncomfortable.  Never go past your peace.

Philippians 4:7 ….and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Let’s be determined in 2007 to continue to grow and move past the things the once bothered us.  There is always someone, somewhere that we can touch in a special way. Holding onto our peace and letting peace be our guide will help us to develop and fulfill God purpose and plan for our life.
