How to make use of your alone times.

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

Many people dread the times when they are left alone. They feel a sense of emptiness or boredom. They start to look out for things to do or people to talk to. Some get into habits like shopping, eating, watching too much television or anything else to “kill the time.”

Anytime is a good time to observe your moment to moment existence. But your alone times give you the chance to look deeper and notice the stimulus that cause the circumstances that you have created.

Alone times are actually what you may need to cure your dysfunctional feelings and behaviors.

How to make use of your alone times.

Watch what is going on inside you.

The noise that is going around you daily makes it difficult to become aware of what is actually going on internally. When you are alone and there is no distraction, you can sit and watch your feelings and thoughts. You are able to see those internal pictures that your mind is showing and the voices that is going back and forth in your head.

Being able to do this regularly will show you that your experiences in life are the results of what you see and hear inside. You can then change your external situations by changing the pictures and voices deliberately that have formed your beliefs and behaviors.

Watch those things existing and happening outside.

When you watch other people doing things, you will notice that they do things and act in ways that produce certain outcomes. You will hear voices that inspire as well as those that put themselves or others down. You will witness how people treat each other.

Watching nature and life itself should instill gratitude and awe. Regardless of what is happening around, the sun still rises and sets each day. The seasons come and go. Flowers blossom, and then wither and new ones will sprout. And there’s nothing you can do to change that.

Log your thoughts, feelings and observations in your journal.

The alone times are great moments to log your internal and external thoughts and observations. This is the time to check and measure your productivity and activities over a period of time to see whether you are making progress.

You can use this opportunity to reevaluate your strengths and weaknesses. Check on your goals too and check out what you have accomplished. If you have not written your goals down, it is about time that you do so.

Just Be.

At times, just sit down quietly and focus on your breath. Don’t resist and fight any thoughts or feelings. Redirect and refocus to your breathing with each inhalation and exhalation. It relaxes and quiets your mind. In your daily world of chaos and stress, you may need this time to find peace within.

A-Z Self Improvement Ideas

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Pain may sometimes be the reason why people change. Getting flunked grades make us realize that we need to study. Debts remind us of our inability to look for a source of income. Being humiliated gives us the ‘push’ to speak up and fight for ourselves to save our face from the next embarrassments. It may be a bitter experience, a friend’s tragic story, a great movie, or an inspiring book that will help us get up and get just the right amount of motivation we need in order to improve ourselves.
With the countless negativities the world brings about, how do we keep motivated? Try on the tips I prepared from A to Z…
A - Achieve your dreams. Avoid negative people, things and places. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
B - Believe in your God and your self, and in what you can do.
C – Consider things on every angle and aspect. Motivation comes from determination. To be able to understand life, you should feel the sun from both sides.
D – Don’t give up and don’t give in. Thomas Edison failed once, twice, more than thrice before he came up with his invention and perfected the incandescent light bulb. Make motivation as your steering wheel.
E – Enjoy. Work as if you don’t need money. Dance as if nobody’s watching. Love as if you never cried. Learn as if you’ll live forever. Motivation takes place when people are happy.
F – Family and Friends – are life’s greatest ‘F’ treasures. Don’t loose sight of them.
G – Give more than what is enough. Where does motivation and self improvement take place at work? At home? At school? When you exert extra effort in doing things.
H – Hang on to your dreams. They may dangle in there for a moment, but these little stars will be your driving force.
I – Ignore those who try to destroy you. Don’t let other people to get the best of you. Stay out of toxic people – the kind of friends who hates to hear about your success.
J – Just be yourself. The key to success is to be yourself. And the key to failure is to try to please everyone.
K – keep trying no matter how hard life may seem. When a person is motivated, eventually he sees a harsh life finally clearing out, paving the way to self improvement.
L – Learn to love your self. Now isn’t that easy?
M – Make things happen. Motivation is when your dreams are put into work clothes.
N – Never lie, cheat or steal. Always play a fair game.
O – Open your eyes. People should learn the horse attitude and horse sense. They see things in 2 ways – how they want things to be, and how they should be.
P – Practice makes perfect. Practice is about motivation. It lets us learn repertoire and ways on how can we recover from our mistakes.
Q – Quitters never win. And winners never quit. So, choose your fate – are you going to be a quitter? Or a winner?
R – Ready yourself. Motivation is also about preparation. We must hear the little voice within us telling us to get started before others will get on their feet and try to push us around. Remember, it wasn’t raining when Noah build the ark.
S – Stop procrastinating.
T – Take control of your life. Discipline or self control jives synonymously with motivation. Both are key factors in self improvement.
U – Understand others. If you know very well how to talk, you should also learn how to listen. Yearn to understand first, and to be understood the second.
V – Visualize it. Motivation without vision is like a boat on a dry land.
W – Want it more than anything. Dreaming means believing. And to believe is something that is rooted out from the roots of motivation and self improvement.
X – X Factor is what will make you different from the others. When you are motivated, you tend to put on “extras” on your life like extra time for family, extra help at work, extra care for friends, and so on.
Y – You are unique. No one in this world looks, acts, or talks like you. Value your life and existence, because you’re just going to spend it once.
Z – Zero in on your dreams and go for it!!

Imagine What It Would Be Like

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Do you know what intrapersonal communications is? Many have not even heard of the word, yet it can be one of your most valuable tools to achieving your goals. Many ask, “Isn’t that like interpersonal?” No.

Intra means self, getting personal with your self. And I mean intellectually.
Intrapersonal communications is your thoughts & conversations with yourself. And the ones that can benefit you the most are the ones that use all of your senses. You see when you tell your self what you desire and see the image in your mind, you are bring clarity to your desire. When you add in your other senses, of what it feel, smell, taste like etc, you are then reinforcing the importance to yourself.

I think that in today’s society we are taught not to talk to ourselves. There is almost a stigmatism that you are some how not ok if you do. Yet, the irony is that, the successful people in the world, the ones that succeed and achieve their dreams and desires, the ones that are the movers and the shakers, talk to themselves. And they do it daily.

And what are they saying? Several things actually.

    They are:
Encouraging themselves when things get challenging.
They know that it can be easy to slide into fear, worry or negativity and that it is important to stay positive. They understand it’s important to look for solutions and be open to ideas to realize that all things are possible. You can’t do this if you are bemoaning what is happening to you.
They also understand that it is through failures that we learn the best and the fastest. They see the challenges as stepping-stones to the next level and they remind themselves of that factor.

As well, they are asking themselves,

  • What are my goals for the year?
  • What do I want to accomplish?
  • What does it look and feel like?
  • What are the details?
  • When will this be done by?
  • How will I achieve this?
  • Who’s help do I need?

I have heard from many of them that they will go one-step further and even meditate on the questions they have until they answers or solutions come to them. And sometimes, when they see a solution, they think forward and ask, “And then what? What else do I need to know and do to succeed?”

This is one of the reasons that their success is almost assured. They know what they want and they know how they are going to get it. Their communication skills with themselves, are practiced and followed through on.

I have also noticed that people who don’t speak with themselves, will just quickly make a new years resolution and then forget about it. There is no clarity or details on what it is or how it will happen. There is no emotion or desire driving them towards it. Then another year goes by and they sit and wonder why hasn’t anything changed.

My desire for you is to choose to make 2006, the year that you make a difference. The year that you discover the value and benefits of Intrapersonal Communication. Choose now to find out who you really are. Start talking with yourself today and really get to know yourself on a more personal level.

The meaning and symbolism behind popular butterfly tattoo designs

Saturday, October 14th, 2006

Butterfly tattoos are among the most popular tattoos today and the most frequently requested tattoo designs especially among women. This shows the major growth of women in the tattoo industry as a whole. Butterfly tattoo designs of course are popular among females just for their beauty! There is also a deep symbolism behind the butterfly that comes forms its short and amazing life.

A butterfly of course starts life as a caterpillar and goes through a major change as it becomes a butterfly. It makes a chrysalis or cocoon and then emerges as a beautiful butterfly. This lead many ancient cultures to regard the butterfly as a symbol of the impermanence and instability of earthly life. The amazing process of change from a caterpillar to a butterfly also captivated many ancient cultures that believed this was similar to the process of a soul’s journey from an earthly body to a heavenly body. In fact the ancient Greeks often symbolized the human soul or psyche with butterfly wings in art.

It is easy to instantly see the beauty that a butterfly tattoo holds and the deeper meaning and significance of a butterfly and its life process make for a very popular tattoo design for women.

The Power of a Clear Intention

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Humans are born into this world with their work already in them. Imagine there is something like DNA with you that has the message of your purpose in this world encoded inside of it. There are several scientific theories about how and where a person’s purpose is actually encoded; however, suffice it to say that in whatever form a person wishes to imagine, the purpose of his life is in fact encoded into his personality. A child can sense–though she may not know exactly how to decode it–her purpose from early in life.

The great luminaries of human society clearly understand what the creative forces put them here to contribute. The mediocre members of human society, on the other hand, never decipher the purpose code. Of course, purpose is more than a job or a career; purpose is more than some specific role like father or mother. For many people, however, the most difficult piece of their purpose to decipher is the one called career.

So, maybe you want to start a business from home; maybe you want to harness internet traffic to highlight some cause in which you believe; whatever your hope, it starts with aligning yourself with your inner purpose. Once you have aligned–even slightly more than now–with your purpose you will begin to see amazing coincidences start to happen that appear to be designed with your well-being in mind. Perhaps some internet advertising company will arrive to show you how to make money doing the type of vocation that is to you a vacation; perhaps an investor will fall into your lap for a business idea upon which you have been working. The bottom line is that once you begin to align yourself with your divine purpose, you will find the generosity of the universe becomes open to you. This is because the universe that made you did so with the intention of increasing well-being.

The difficulty of decoding purpose is only enhanced for people who have talents of a creative nature. A friend of the author has been struggling for years to decide what his career should be. He has tried starting a business and failed. He has tried working up the ladder of a corporation and failed. It appears that he has tried everything he can think of except for the obvious: creative enterprise. He knows his talents are in creative enterprise–specifically acting–but he continuously doubts that his ability is strong enough to sustain a paying career in the field he loves. The sad result of his self-doubt is that he has wasted his money, credit, and dignity on one poor fit after another. He believes he is a failure when in actuality he is merely being taught by life the one difficult fact of success: follow your talent.

Joseph Campbell–the popular academic–used say “follow your bliss,” but director George Lucas revised that advice to “follow your talent” in an interview with Charlie Rose last spring (2005). He told the story of his haphazard fall into moviemaking. He didn’t really know what he was getting into, but after he started doing it, he found he was as good as the best and better than most. The result of his choice to follow his talent has made him one of the richest directors in Hollywood history and has made our country and world richer for his having been here. Isn’t that the kind of legacy everyone is after? Of course, not everyone is meant to be a superstar director like George Lucas, but why can’t everyone be the very best that is in them to be? The answer of course is that they can if they choose to follow their talent.

So, you are one of the people who has been cursed–as you may see it now–with artistic talents, but with few talents for more practical roads. What do you do next? For certain, do not attempt to build the city of your life around the oasis of someone else’s purpose because if you do, that luxuriant oasis will ultimately reveal itself to be nothing more than a mirage.

The first affirmative step you can take is to embrace your purpose and set a clear intention to fulfill it. While it can’t be proven that every person who has ever set a clear intention got what they were after, it can be shown–empirically mind you–that no real success has been wrought from uncertain intentions. While George Lucas may not have known that film was where his talent lay in the beginning, once he learned the talent was there, he pursued it from then on by choice, not by accident. The list of luminaries who prove this rule is indefinably long.

Any namable success can be shown to have followed this first rule: clear intention. Any exception you think you can name ends up upon further investigation to be a fluke rather than a success. Flukes are not happy or content people, successes–in the area of their success at least–are happy and content. So it is with you. The nature of happiness is that all of the doors lying before the path look like labrynths, mirrors, and gargoyles, but once happiness has boldly been committed to, those foul looking centurions reveal themselves to be friends and allies.

One Decision That Can Change Your Life

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

There is One Decision that can change your life for the better, forever. When you make this One Decision, you step into the life you yearned for — a life of adventure, commitment, and fulfillment of your heart’s desires. You probably do not know at this moment what that decision is or what your life will look like once it is made. You may be uncertain of your worthiness to attain it. No matter: The One Decision will bring you into the life you yearn for!

The One Decision will form the basis and context for all the decisions, big and small, that you will make in all the days to follow. As you take this step and make your One Decision, you will see the abundance of the universe, the inexhaustible gifts of spirit, flow in to support you. Your One Decision will be your map, your compass, your North Star, and your challenge as you chart your life course. Let your One Decision be the light of your heart that guides you to a life of MORE — more of everything you truly desire.

Have you ever wondered why relatively few people lead great lives while most people lead average lives at best? Like it or not, we each live the life that we decide to lead. Having a great life requires making a great decision — the One Decision™. The One Decision is a commitment to pursue MORE in life — more love, fulfillment, purpose, satisfaction, meaning, abundance, contribution, intimacy, and spirit. And pursuing the bigger MORE will also bring you more of the worldly things you desire — more money, great relationships, better health, and career success.

Everyone wants MORE out of life, yet not everyone has chosen MORE. We have chosen what we think will bring us MORE — we’ve gone to the right schools, changed careers, lost weight, accumulated money, done yoga, taken a class, joined a gym, gotten a makeover, bought lottery tickets, taken up art, meditated, jumped on the fast track, dropped out of the rat race, gotten married, ended relationships, bought bigger houses or fancier cars — or even gotten rid of it all.

Yet our attempts rarely deliver the results we hope for. The satisfaction doesn’t last. We make random improvements, and as a result, we lead only partially successful lives. We achieve at work but fail at important relationships; we have a great family life but suffer from poor health; we enjoy great health but experience career problems.

Sometimes, for a few brief moments, we may touch the greater MORE — a sense of rightness with ourselves and the world, a feeling that we are a part of something larger. But despite this momentary high, the real, enduring MORE eludes us, and for a very good reason. No matter how many “good” activities or behaviors we add to our life to try to get MORE, we never truly experience MORE until we make the One Decision. Making this decision, we choose MORE directly. We learn to use this profound decision to guide us in making all the many choices we face each day in our lives.
